‘Shadow and Bone’ renewed for a second season

Netflix has proved itself to be pretty cut-throat of late when it comes to its fantasy side of things. Jupiter’s Legacy was canned after one season and The Irregulars followed suit, but fortunately for Shadow and Bone fans, it has escaped the cull.

The fantasy series scored more than 55 million streams in its first 28 days on the platform and topped streaming lists in a whopping 79 countries, thus renewal was a no brainer.

The show is based on the Young Adult book series by Leigh Bardurgo of the same name. The official logline for the series reads: “Dark forces conspire against orphan mapmaker Alina Starkov when she unleashes an extraordinary power that could change the fate of her war-torn world.”

Showrunner Eric Heisserer confirmed the forthcoming season two by saying: “I’m honoured and thrilled to return to the Grishaverse and continue the stories of these endearing characters, particularly Milo.”

While Bardurgo, who also works as an Executive Producer for the show, added: “I’ve been writing in the Grishaverse for nearly 10 years now, so I’m thrilled we get to keep this adventure going.”

Continuing to hint at what is to come, “There are so many places we’ve barely gotten to visit and I can’t wait to introduce our audience to more of the saints, soldiers, thugs, thieves, princes, and privateers who make this world so much fun to explore.”

Seeing as though the announcement has only just been made the second season is unlikely to enter production right away, however, it is believed that it was already being lined up pending the success of the first outing so it shouldn’t be too long before it returns either.

For now, you can relive the trailer for the original below.
