Sex Education's Simone Ashley to star in ‘Bridgerton’ season 2

Sex Education’s Simone Ashley is set to lead up the cast of Bridgerton for the second series of the hit Netflix programme.

The streaming service has confirmed the news to Variety that Ashley will be joining the cast for the second season of Bridgerton. She will star in the series opposite reportedly as Jonathan Bailey’s Anthony Bridgerton character’s love interest. Her name is called Kate Sharma and, according to Deadline, “is a smart, independent woman who is new to the ton and its many social events (and expectations). For Anthony, winning Kate over won’t be an easy task.”

The second season of Bridgerton will reportedly focus on Anthony. His character is the oldest of the Bridgerton family. The season is based on the second book in Julia Quinn’s series, The Viscount Who Loved Me.

“We have a bunch of new characters we are going to be introducing,” creator and showrunner Chris Van Dusen said in announcing the Season 2 renewal on Today with Hoda & Jenna last month. “Anthony is going to have a love interest next season, and I think it’s going to be as sweeping and moving and as beautiful as viewers of the first season have come to expect from the show.”

“We left him at the end of the first season at a bit of a crossroads, so I’m looking forward to jumping in and discovering how he fares on the marriage market,” Van Dusen said in the interview, noting that his hope is for Page and Dynevor to return.

As Season 2 leads, Bailey and Ashley will take over from where Regé-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor left-off in the first series of the programme that saw them become massive global stars as a result of the success of the show.
