A second season of ‘Adolescence’ might be in the works

Last year, various hit Netflix shows got everyone talking, like One Day and Baby Reindeer, but now it’s Adolescence, a four-part series about a 13-year-old boy accused of stabbing and killing a female classmate.

Each episode is shot in one-take as detectives try and figure out exactly what happened, with Jamie Miller, played by Owen Cooper, arrested on suspicion of Katie’s murder. The show explores the influence of harmful online incel subcultures, with Stephen Graham, who co-wrote and stars in the show, taking inspiration from the various acts of male-on-female violence that have repeatedly cropped up in the news over the past few years.

Also starring Ashley Walters, Faye Marsay, Mark Stanley, and Erin Doherty, the show has received widespread critical acclaim, earning staggering streaming records of over 24million views within its first four days of release.

Many fans are hoping for a second season, and a TV source has reportedly told The Sun that it seems likely that Graham and co-creator Jack Thorne will be getting back in the writing room at some point soon. “Execs are thrilled by the results and acclaim for Adolescence.”

“It’s seen as a format that can run and run, at least to a second series if not further, as it could take in a different teen issue each series,” the publication reported.

“The topic has resonated with viewers because it taps into parents’ biggest fear, and there’s plenty of scope for more in the same vein. Stylistically, the one-take creative approach could become the hallmark of the series. It’s one of the aspects which has got everyone talking.”

So, while it’s not confirmed for certain, it seems likely that Adolescence will make a return in order to explore more vital topics concerning teenagers using the same one-take format to create a sense of intensity and realism.
