Season 3 of 'The Witcher' could be arriving sooner than you think

The world is still reeling from polishing off the second season of The Witcher starring Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. The fantasy series sees Geralt roam the mystical lands defeating monsters and saving villages and has been widely lauded by its audience. But, with every completion of an episode looms the dreaded question: “What will we watch next?”

Luckily, for fans of the show, there is a hefty rumour that season three of The Witcher isn’t as far off as you might think. The first thing to note, however, is that if you’re really in need of your Witcher fix, then the first port of call should be the animated series and, if you wait until next year, you will also get a prequel miniseries titled Blood Origin. However, if you only want to see Cavill’s Geralt, the good news is just around the corner.

Season three was officially greenlit by Netflix in September 2021, suggesting that work for the new season would begin as soon as possible. When you also consider the desire to remove the lengthy delay that audiences experienced between season one and two, then chances are Netflix are going to accelerate this project.

Scripts for season three have already been written according to Lauren Schmidt Hissirch’s comments when speaking to Tech Radar: “The creative process is now really just starting. We have the scripts, and now we’ll bring directors on, the actors back in, and really start delving in deeper and reflecting back and making sure that it’s the perfect season.”

During another conversation, the showrunner confirmed that Netflix and her creative team were looking way into the future: “We approximately do a book a season, but we also make sure that the stories from that book are best in that season of our television show. So sometimes we move those chess pieces around a little bit. There’s a big story from Blood of Elves that we’re gonna do in Season 3 for instance. Or there was a short story that we couldn’t fit in Season 1, so we put it in Season 2. We try to be pretty flexible with that.”

All of this suggests that season three of the show is far closer than we may have all feared.
