‘Sean Combs: The Reckoning’ is coming to Netflix this December

Netflix is bringing a new four-part documentary, Sean Combs: The Reckoning, from Emmy and Grammy-winning executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Emmy-winning director Alexandria Stapleton, this December.

Sean Combs: The Reckoning examines the media tycoon, music mogul, and convicted offender, who was found guilty of two counts earlier in July of “transportation for purposes of prostitution,” presently serving time in federal prison. He’s allegedly appealing his conviction and sentence.

Combs rapidly rose through the ranks of fame in the music world, driven by his determination to achieve pioneering stardom and his eye for talent. His climb within the music industry was anchored by Bad Boy Entertainment, which was pivotal in highlighting hip-hop to the pop culture.

Combs is known for launching the careers of widely known stars and career-defining artists, including The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J Blige, Jodeci, and Danity Kane. However, in the process, as is outlined by the ex-Bad Boy rapper Mark Curry in Sean Combs: The Reckoning teaser, the music legend spiralled into the world of darkness, much of which was clarified with R&B singer Casandra Ventura’s lawsuit against him in November 2023.

“Being a woman in the industry, and going through the #MeToo movement – watching giants in music and film go on trial and to know what their outcomes were… When Cassie dropped her lawsuit, I just thought this could go a million different directions,” says director Stapleton.

“I wondered how she had the confidence to go out there against a mogul like Sean Combs. As a filmmaker, I instantly knew it was a stress test of whether we’ve changed as a culture, as far as being able to process allegations like this in a fair way.”

But Sean Combs: The Reckoning is not just about Sean Combs’ or Cassie’s story. In fact, it’s also not the story of any of the victims or their accusations against him or the trial. “This story is a mirror [reflecting us] as the public, and what we are saying when we put our celebrities on such a high pedestal,” says Stapleton. She hopes the documentary will open many eyes and make viewers reconsider how they look up to people.

Doubling down on his commitment to “real storytelling” with G-Unit Film and Television, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson expressed gratitude towards everyone who has trusted them with their side of the story. He also extolled Stapleton for having the courage to bring such a story to the screen.

Sean Combs: The Reckoning incorporates tell-all, never-before-seen materials, including exclusive interviews with people who have been in Combs’ proximity previously. The documentary details the story of Combs as a powerful figure in the star world, the empire he built, and what goes on beneath its surface. The Netflix docu-series will be available for streaming on Netflix from December 2nd. So, sit tight for further updates.
