‘Scandal’ will return to Netflix after five years away
Homecoming season must be close, as Netflix will be seeing the return of a fan-favourite show, Scandal. All seven seasons of the ABC series will be coming to the streaming platform, making for a welcome addition to the otherwise relatively mellow lineup of newly licensed shows.
Scandal first aired on television in 2012 and concluded in 2018, with 124 episodes spanning seven seasons. This hit political drama starred Kerry Washington as Olivia Pope, who runs a crisis management firm. A product of Shondaland, Henry Ian Cusick, Columbus Short, Darby Stanchfield, and Katie Lowes also feature in the series.
The show has received critical acclaim and many distinguished accolades, with Washington immensely recognised and appreciated for her breakout performance. She has received multiple nominations across prestigious platforms such as the Emmys, Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Often considered to be one of Shonda Rhimes’ best productions, Scandal will be returning on June 17th, 2025. The show first became available for streaming in 2014 with an initial release of the first three seasons. Soon, with each subsequent year, a new season arrived on the platform post its complete television release. The complete series with all seven seasons was available for two years from 2018 to 2020 before its removal. It will likely now be available for one to three years, similar to its earlier licenses. Joining the slate of Shonda Rhimes’ productions will also be Grey’s Anatomy, the medical drama that recently completed its 21st season, which will soon be available on Netflix from June 14th.
Kerry Washington also has found success and critical acclaim on Netflix earlier with her film The Six Triple Eight, directed by Tyler Perry. To add to her streaming platform journey, Washington will also star in the upcoming instalment of the hugely popular Knives Out film series, Wake Up Dead Man, which will be available for streaming in the second half of 2025 after a theatrical release.
Fans of the hit political drama are elated for the return of the show on the platform.
