Actor Sadie Sink, who portrays Max in the hit Netflix series Stranger Things, has said the final episode of season five will be “awful” to film.
Sink has played the part of Max since the second season of Stranger Things, which aired in 2017. In a new interview on the Today show, the actor revealed how much the Netflix hit means to her and discussed how difficult it would be to say goodbye to the crew.
“We know that it’s happening and that it’s the last season, so it’s going to be emotional, I’m sure,” Sink said in an appearance on the Today show. “It’s going to be awful. It’s going to be horrible. These kids, this entire cast and crew, it’s family. People say that all the time, but I genuinely mean it.”
She added: “To think that we have to say goodbye to that security and knowing that we’re going to be seeing each other for another season? It’s scary and sad, but I think it’s exciting to kind of move on to the next chapter, I guess.”
When we last saw Max in the turbulent fourth season in 2022, she was being saved from Vecna by Eleven. Despite the knowledge that her character will make it to season five, Sink still hasn’t got a clue how things will end for Max.
When asked for hints as to what season five might have in store, the actor said: “Spoiler-free, just with the way my character ended in season four, I have no idea what is going to happen. But, I’ll be there [sic].”
According to the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things was initially planned for a finale at the end of the fourth season. However, in February 2022, they announced in a letter to fans that a fifth season would be added as the definite conclusion.
“Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things,” the Duffer Brothers wrote. “At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but – as you’ll soon see for yourselves – we are now hurtling toward our finale. Season four will be the penultimate season; season five will be the last.”
