Sadie Sink hated skateboarding in ‘Stranger Things’

Sadie Sink claims that when she was learning to skateboard for her role in Stranger Things, she took a “hard fall” that put her off the sport altogether and now she hates it. Sink noted in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel that she had lied to Stranger Things’ creators, The Duffer Brothers, about being able to skate in order to land the part.

Sink said, “I said I had rollerblading experience, which is just a lie. And the two don’t go hand-in-hand, so I don’t know why I thought that would be a good idea.” Following her successful audition, The Duffer Brothers sent a skateboard to Sink’s house so that she could practice.

However, Sink had little interest in actually learning, which had also been reinforced by the fact that she had a rather bad fall during the first day of practice. She added, “I had no idea how to do it. I really didn’t like it because the first day, I took a pretty hard fall, and that just set a bad tone for the entire journey.”

The actor had previously admitted that she had practically “begged” for the Duffer Brothers to let her carry on playing the part of Max in the show when they had initially become concerned that she was getting too old. Sink was already 14 when she played Max in the second season of the iconic sci-fi series

“I just begged and pleaded with them to give me more material so I could show them something fresh,” she said. As for her more recent projects, Sink will appear in the highly-anticipated The Whale, produced by A24. The film sees Brendan Fraser play a 600lbs English teacher in the final throes of life. Sink plays Fraser’s character’s estranged daughter who he attempts to revitalise a relationship with.
