‘Run Away’ ending explained: Is Paige alive?

Netflix kicked off New Year’s with a gripping new Harlan Coben adaptation, Run Away, which came with its fair share of secrets and mysteries.

For those uninitiated, Coben’s newest limited series centres around the investigation when Simon Greene’s daughter, Paige, goes missing, leaving her family desperate to find her.

Although Simon does find her in a city park, vulnerable and completely out on drugs, when he discovers her with Aaron Corval, a troubled young man, whom the father blames for luring his daughter into the darkness, a violent altercation breaks out, and Simon loses Paige all over again. What makes the situation worse for Simon is when the video of the attack is recorded, putting him in a tough spot as Aaron is murdered soon after.

While that doesn’t exactly stop Simon from searching for Paige, even when his wife succumbs to a coma after getting shot, he ultimately joins forces with private investigator Elena Ravenscroft, who’s also looking into a missing persons case that has connections to Aaron and Paige. But does Paige survive at the end of it all? Let’s find out!

Is Paige alive in Run Away?

Run Away is full of mind-bending twists and turns. But since the mystery we begin is with Paige’s disappearance, it’s only natural to be curious whether she makes it out alive. With a string of murders interconnected with Simon’s runaway daughter and a dangerous cult out on the loose, things don’t really look good for Paige, to be honest. However, early in the series finale, fans finally get their answers about Paige, who reappears for the first time since Simon spotted her in the park with Aaron.

In the series finale, we find Paige sitting at her mother’s hospital bedside, looking far normal than she did last. She tells her father that she has been in a rehabilitation facility and has been sober for almost a month now. It turns out that when she discovered Aaron’s body, she feared that the cops would be after her, thinking she had murdered him. As a result, she chose to run away.

Simon came to learn over the series that Paige had been sexually assaulted at university, and soon after, she turned to drugs and spent more time with Aaron. She never told Simon any of this because she assumed he would be disappointed, but she did tell her mother, Ingrid, who sent her to the rehab when she was younger.

Although Coben and Danny Brocklehurst combine many different worlds in Run Away, the former believes “addiction is one of those things that make those worlds overlap.” “It affects everybody – every economic and social class.” So, yes, to answer the question on everyone’s mind, Paige is alive indeed in Run Away. But to find out more answers regarding the murders and the murderers, don’t forget to watch the limited series, currently streaming on Netflix.
