Roald Dahl's classic hits Netflix's top 50 in the UK

Netflix has finally made its way back to the top 50 most-watched titles on British television after nearly four months, and it has Roald Dahl’s beloved story to thank for it.

Matilda The Musical, a reimagining of Dahl’s iconic novel, premiered on the platform on June 25th to great success, drawing in a staggering 2.6million viewers on TV sets, according to Barb (Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board), the UK’s official audience research group.

This achievement marks Netflix’s seventh most-watched movie since Barb started reporting viewing figures for streaming platforms back in November 2021.

The streamer’s previous entry on Barb’s list was Luther: The Fallen Sun, which garnered 3 million viewers in March. Matilda The Musical is currently at the 36th spot with a 2.59m audience count.

Matilda joins other noteworthy Netflix productions in Barb’s top 50 list: Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery captivated audiences for two weeks, accumulating a total of 18.5m viewers during that time. Don’t Look Up also had a two-week stint on the list, attracting 15m viewers. Additionally, The Adam Project garnered 11.1m viewers, The Gray Man had 6.9m viewers, and Enola Holmes 2 delighted 4.6m viewers.

However, the most-watched program during the week that Matilda the Musical debuted in the top 50 was Elton John’s electrifying performance at Glastonbury, which captivated a remarkable 8.3million viewers.

It’s important to note that the figures provided by Barb only take into account viewership on television sets, excluding mobile device viewership from the count.
