Ricky Gervais’ Netflix special ‘Mortality’ is coming this December

Ricky Gervais’s stand-up special, Mortality, is eyeing a December release on Netflix. So, comedy lovers better be ready for the comedic fireworks coming your way ahead of the New Year’s.

Gervais has been touring for the special since 2024, which was filmed in 2025 at the London Palladium. Mortality will mark his fourth stand-up special, which comes after Humanity, Supernature, and Armageddon.

His next stand-up special pledged that “no topic is off limits as Ricky closes out the year with his best show yet.” While that’s enough to have everyone sold, it couldn’t have chosen a better time. Ricky Gervais: Mortality is set to land on December 30th, just in time for the new year.

The logline reads, “Gervais takes on his own mortality in a brutally honest and darkly funny stand-up special about his life, death, and the state of the world. As viewers know, this is not the first time Gervais has shed light on mortality; the primary crux of his Netflix series, After Life, also extensively touched upon it, portraying the comedian as a widower.

Speaking of his upcoming Netflix special, he said in a statement, “I think Mortality is my most honest and confessional show so far and also my favourite tour. I still can’t believe what a privilege it is to fly around the world making people laugh.”

Gervais’ history with Netflix is not a recent breakthrough. His previous special, Armageddon, was a chart-topper on Netflix charts, which eventually earned him a Golden Globe. As for Mortality?

According to Deadline, the 80-arena tour is expected to wrap up ahead of the special’s release in December, with a part of its proceeds being donated to charity. His tour so far has included Hollywood Bowl in LA, Radio City Hall in New York, alongside a 14-night run at the Palladium. In fact, the tour has shattered box office records in several European countries.

Gervais has been a household name in the world of entertainment for decades, having most famously co-created and starred in the British TV sitcom, The Office, which was eventually adapted into one of the most-well-viewed American TV series of all time. His accolade shelf speaks for itself, which boasts seven BAFTA awards, two Emmys, and four Golden Globes, among others. In addition to all his achievements, he served as the host of the Golden Globes five times.

Gervais’ partnership with Netflix goes way back. But most recently, the platform announced an adult animated series, Alley Cats, starring Gervais, Diane Morgan, Tom Basden, and Kerry Godliman. While there’s still some time to Mortality’s release, one thing is for sure: December will get its holiday dose of laughter.
