'Queen Charlotte' has tremendous opening week on Netflix

Netflix’s Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has had a wildly successful opening week on the streaming site since premiering on May 4th.

The Bridgerton spin-off has received critical acclaim and attracted 148.28million hours worldwide in less than a week of being on Netflix.

Created by Shonda Rhimes, the limited series was ranked the most-viewed show on the streaming platform for the past week. The miniseries comprising six episodes – has enjoyed the fourth-best opening week on Netflix for 2023.

The show follows the eponymous Queen Charlotte and consists of two plotlines. The first is in the present of Bridgerton, beginning in 1817 with the death of the royal heir Princess Charlotte, which causes the Queen to pressure her children into marriage and produce another one.

The second starts in 1761, with Charlotte meeting and marrying King George. It analyses their relationship and the King’s mental illness.

The first season of Bridgerton premiered on Netflix in December 2020 and became a critical hit. The second chapter was then sanctioned due to its success and arrived in March 2022. It has been confirmed that the show will return for its third season, but a release date is yet to be announced.
