Prince Harry confesses the Netflix shows he and Meghan can’t stop watching

Prince Harry has always had a knack for making serious occasions feel warm and human. And this is from before he left the royals and decided to lead a life like a common man with a jolly good personality.

He showcased this side again recently at the WellChild Awards in London. Fun fact: it’s his first UK outing in a year. Between honouring extraordinary children and chatting with families, he slipped in jokes about his own bald head and teased about siblings. But most of all, he generally reminded everyone why he has long been the cheekiest royal.

The evening was all about celebrating resilience, but it also gave us a rare glimpse into Harry’s life away from the spotlight. When 13-year-old Grace Tutt asked him for Netflix recommendations, the Duke of Sussex’s answer made the entire room laugh. Not just that, it also offered a tiny window into what evenings look like in Montecito.

So what are Prince Harry and Meghan tuning into once the kids are asleep? According to Harry, part of their current watchlist is exactly what you would expect: Hostage. The question here is, who isn’t watching it? It is the kind of tense political thriller that fits neatly alongside the couple’s interest in global issues. So this one wasn’t such a big surprise.

But what came next can be termed as a curveball. It turns out, the couple is also hooked on Love Is Blind. Imagine one of the world’s most famous couples keeping up with blind proposals and the reality-TV drama. Well, that makes you feel a little okay, as this shows that they are just as addicted to reality drama as any of us.

But nobody is talking about the contrast that is making their show choices so endearing. On one hand, you have Hostage, which speaks to the serious, thoughtful side of their partnership. While on the other hand, Love Is Blind shows the playful side and the kind of guilty-pleasure viewing that proves they are just like ordinary people. In fact, you never know if they’re also shouting at the screen when someone makes a questionable choice in the pods.

The timing adds another layer to Harry’s answers. Meghan Markle just had season two of her own Netflix series, With Love, Meghan, see light, which didn’t do so well. Moreover, the couple recently renewed their multi-year deal with the platform, and that’s what makes their Netflix watchlist a big deal. While they may be producing glossy docuseries and lifestyle content, when it is just the two of them at home, their choices show a mix of weight and whimsy.

According to People, Prince Harry said, “I have always said for many years that I still have a child inside of me, and I think all of us do”. It’s the childlike enthusiasm and self-deprecating humour of the Prince that makes him such a joy to be around.
