Penn Badgley on what might happen in Netflix’s 'You' season 3

No matter how much we despise Joe Goldberg, we cannot wait to see what he has in store for us along with his psychopathic girlfriend Love in Netflix’s upcoming You season three, which will stream on Netflix from October 15, 2021.

In season two, Joe Goldberg fell for Love Quinn (played by Victoria Pedretti) who turned out to be equally deranged and obsessive. Together, they form a great pair and the season ended with a heavily pregnant Love moving into a home with her boyfriend Joe; the latter observes his neighbour creepily through a peephole, setting the premise for season three.

Love is actually as pathetic as Joe, having killed his ex-girlfriend Candace as well as Delilah, the girl Joe held captive in his storage unit. Joe, who was initially infatuated with Love, is so afraid of what she is capable of, finds himself moving in with her.

In 2019, Penn Badgley revealed a few ideas about what the upcoming season has in store for this dynamic duo.

Badgley said that the third season is not exactly a lovey-dovey happily ever after as the duo is “each other’s arch-nemesis”. The former Gossip Girl actor said, “Even Joe says, pretty unequivocally, that they’re not soulmates. He’s afraid of her at the end.”

“Basically, it’s set up for season three in a way where they would be each other’s arch-nemesis.” Regarding the various twists and turns as well as the unpredictable future for the duo, Badgley said that he is unaware of what the writers have in store despite knowing it ‘s a “dangerous cycle”.

“It’s kind of like old patterns and habits. We recognize them more as we get older, and we often find that they’re extremely hard to break. Maybe that’s what we’re seeing with him?” said the actor.

He continued, “His particular cycle is so awful. Technically, he has improved. Yes, he was going to kill Love, but he stopped when she told him she was pregnant. I really don’t know what’s in store there.”

He compared their relationship to a “Chinese finger trap” to convey the complications and dangerous lies surrounding it. He also said that the season would provide a thorough “examination of marriage”.

“He’s going to always be worried that [Love] will kill him or, I don’t know, the child? I’m not even sure,” dished out the actor.

Badgley continued, “It’s sort of perfect because they are going to see each other as their arch-nemesis, which in a relationship, past a certain point, you always are threatening. It’s not right, but it’s the way that people view it, and it’s unfortunate.”

You Season three will probably show Joe and Love’s very explosive relationship filled with mind-boggling narratives and gruesome premise as can be understood from the teaser trailer below:
