Oscars gift bag makers call Ricky Gervais a “hypocrite”

Oscars gift bag makers have called comedian Ricky Gervais a “hypocrite” after the latter’s sarcastic Twitter rant. Lash Fary, the founder of Distinctive Assets, the creators of these gift bags, has responded to Gervais after the comedian made a snarky remark about the traditional gift bags that cost nearly more than $100000.

Calling Ricky Gervais a “talented comedian”, Fary said, “It’s no surprise that I find the hypocrisy of his ‘goody bag tweet’ hilarious.”

He explained that they are not spending money buying the items inside the gift bags as most of them become a promotional campaign for specific brands. He then referred to Gervais’ recent Netflix deal after three seasons of his show After Life

“While we do not spend money buying any of the items in our gift bags (much like advertising, this is simply a promotional campaign for brands), the valuation is indeed significant…but not nearly as substantial as Ricky’s recent Netflix deal, the residuals he receives for The Office or his multi-million-dollar home,” he told Metro.

He then changed the words of Gervais’ original tweet to say, “So if you’re unemployed, take some comfort in the fact that even if you had a job, your salary probably wouldn’t be as much as Ricky Gervais makes for a single episode of After Life.”

Gervais had responded to a fan about what would have happened if he had hosted the Oscars. Infamous for his scathing comments at the Golden Globes, Gervais posted a series of Tweets with his imaginary Oscar speech.

They read: “I’d start with ‘Hello. I hope this show helps cheer up the ordinary people watching at home. If you’re unemployed, for example, take some comfort in the fact that even if you had a job, your salary probably wouldn’t be as much as the goody bag all the actors have just been given.'”

He continued, “I’m proud to announce that this is the most diverse and progressive Oscars ever”, in his following Tweet. “Looking out I see people from all walks of life. Every demographic under the sun. Except poor people, obviously. Fuck them.'”

Oscars 2022 was indeed an eventful ceremony after Will Smith’s infamous slap became the defining moment of the evening. After Chris Rock’s jab at Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith’s alopecia, Smith walked onto the stage to hit the comedian before hurling a string of offensive threats, shocking one and all present.

Gervais was recently seen in the final season of the Netflix series After Life, where he plays the disillusioned alcoholic journalist Tony. His life spirals after he loses his beloved wife to cancer and slowly finds his way back with the help of unlikely friendships.
