'Ōoku: The Inner Chambers' anime adaptation coming to Netflix soon

The popular historical manga Ōoku: The Inner Chambers will be getting an anime adaptation exclusive to Netflix. The show will arrive at some point in 2023 and adapts the famous manga series written and illustrated by Fumi Yoshinaga.

The animation studio behind the anime adaptation is Studio Deen, which also worked on the last two seasons of The Seven Deadly Sins. A proper release date has not yet been confirmed by Netflix, although it’s been announced that Ōoku: The Inner Chambers will arrive on the streaming platform at some point in Q3 2023.

According to VIZ, the synopsis for Ōoku: The Inner Chambers reads, “In Edo period Japan (1603 to 1868), a strange new disease called the Redface Pox has begun to prey on the country’s men. Within eighty years of the first outbreak, the male population has fallen to a quarter of the total female population.” 

The synopsis continues, “Women have taken on all the roles traditionally granted to men, even that of the Shogun. The men, precious providers of life, are carefully protected, and the most beautiful of the men are sent to serve in the Shogun’s Inner Chambers.” Yunoshin Mizuno will be voiced by Tomozaku Seki, Sanae Kobayashi by Yoshimune Tokugawa, and Mamoru Miyano by Arikoto Madenokoji.
