‘One Piece’ showrunner responds to Jamie Lee Curtis’ wish to be in the show

The actor Jamie Lee Curtis has again made it clear that she would love to star in the Netflix live-action One Piece adaptation. The Academy Award winner has shown that she’d be happy to play the character Dr. Kureha.

The actor took to Instagram over the weekend to put herself forward for the role by sharing a fan art picture of herself as the character, making it apparent that she has her eyes on taking part in the second series of the show.

Curtis wrote in the post, “ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha in [One Piece].”

The post was spotted by the One Piece co-showrunner Matt Owens, who responded to Curtis with, “Mommy dearest, that’s why we sent you that figure! No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work, let’s talk!”

Curtis has previously expressed her wants to play Dr. Kureha. She spoke of wanting to play Nico Robin at the San Diego Comic Con but admitted that the character would be hard to play due to her age, so she turned her attention to Dr. Kureha.

The actor’s daughter Ruby once appeared on the One Piece Podcast and spoke of her mother’s love for the character. She said, “My mom loves Kureha. I would be 100 per cent for it.”

Ruby continued, “And honestly, since Netflix is doing the live-action adaptation, I would highly recommend her to pull some strings to see if she can. I know my mom is 100 per cent for it.”
