‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ part two is set to conclude with standalone finale
It’s clearly not just raining content on Netflix; the streaming giant is also flooding with updates, and the news of the day concerns One Hundred Years of Solitude fans. So, if you’re one, hold on to your lattes!
According to an exclusive Deadline report, the second and final part of Netflix’s One Hundred Years of Solitude will be out in August, with the series confirmed to pull the curtains with a standalone finale debuting later that month.
In addition to the launch details, the tabloid also offered readers an exclusive sneak peek at the trailer and first art of the second part of One Hundred Years of Solitude, which serves as an adaptation of Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez’s acclaimed 1967 novel. While the novel had been described as unfilmable for the longest time, Netflix finally did the unthinkable when the first season, comprising eight episodes, launched in 2024.
The release roster for the second part of the Netflix adaptation will consist of seven episodes, premiering on August 5th. The events of part two will lead up to the grand finale, scheduled to release on August 26th.
One Hundred Years of Solitude, part one, on Netflix, takes viewers inside the town of Macondo, which, although it was built to be a paradise, began crashing down when Colonel Aureliano Buendía launched an attack. The second part of the story is expected to span the next fifty years, diving deeper into the new generations of the family, capturing Macondo’s transformation and ultimate fate.
Carlos Moreno will direct the first three episodes of the second part, with Laura Mora taking the director’s chair for the remaining four episodes and the feature-length concluding chapter. “Each episode of this second part is like a film,” said Mora, who also directed the first three episodes of season one.
“We took the series to another level aesthetically, narratively, and through sound and music to build a much more cinematic and emotional ending. After living in that house in that town for three years, we felt that closing this journey had to feel just as grand, epic, and cinematic.” Meanwhile, Netflix’s VP of Content for America, Francisco Ramos, broke down the reason they chose to give a pause between the seven episodes and the grand finale.
“During the writing and pre-production of the second part of the series, we came to the conclusion that the right way to tell the novel in all its scope and ambition required a format beyond that of a standard episode, but rather a grand finale that would properly represent the conclusion of the Colombian Nobel laureate’s masterpiece,” he explained.
“This grand finale will take the form of a special episode, practically a feature-length film directed by Laura Mora. The two parts of the series, together with the final chapter, make up the audiovisual adaptation of One Hundred Years of Solitude.”
