Nothing is what it seems in the new ‘Stranger Things’ season 5, vol 2 trailer
If the first volume of season five on Netflix sparked more questions than you initially started out with, the Stranger Things volume two trailer confirms that they aren’t without reasons.
Right ahead of its impending Christmas Day release, Netflix unveiled a spine-chilling new trailer on December 15th, which is proof enough that everything we thought we knew about the Upside Down so far is “dead wrong.” At least, that’s what a battered Dustin Henderson is seen saying in the volume two trailer.
In the second volume of Stranger Things five, which is about to premiere with three new episodes on December 25th, the Hawkins hero will confront twice the threat we saw in the first part. But for some reason, everyone seems to have lost their remaining hope. “We failed,” Will tells Joyce. “We never stood a chance.” However, Joyce takes him in her arms, saying, “This is not over. Not by a long shot.”
The two-minute trailer is packed with fast, fleeting sequences, each more thrilling than the last. From Eleven seeking Kali for help to defeat Vecna once and for all to Nancy Wheeler firing a bullet shower onto the closing in military, the sneak peek into the second volume does throw you off guard. But the most pulsating scene of them all?
It’s when Henry Creel descends the staircase, transforming into Vecna, saying, “It is time for a new world.” The scene then cuts to a fast-paced montage, showcasing a do-or-die pact between Steve and Dustin. However, the trailer concludes with an electrocuted Demogorgon that we still cannot wrap our heads around.
Not to forget the powerful reveal in the final moments of volume one of Stranger Things season five, which still projects one big question: how will Will channel his mysterious new powers to save Hawkins?
“We’ve always known that Will has a connection to Vecna and the Upside Down,” says co-creator and director Ross Duffer. “In season two, we started to delve into it, but one of the earliest ideas in the new season is, ‘What if Will were able to harness this connection and use it against our villains?’ We also felt it very natural to re-centre this story on Will. He was the kid who was taken in season one, so it felt right for the story to come full circle. If anyone [was] going to be the key to ending Vecna, it needed to be Will.”
Gaten Matarazzo couldn’t help but agree, saying that Will’s powers will “change the game” for the Hawkins heroes. “I think that puts us on more of [an even] playing field. I’m sure that’s objectively terrifying to Vecna.” According to Finn Wolfhard, “We have two Elevens.”
While the concluding moments of Stranger Things season five, volume one, already left us on a cliffhanger with no point of return, or so it seemed, the volume two trailer has now officially entered the chat to stroke the anticipation all the more. So, don’t forget to catch up on the three-episode second volume, which is currently counting the days until December 25th.
