Nobody can be trusted in Harlan Coben’s ‘Run Away’ trailer

Netflix’s collaboration with Harlan Coben mysteries is about to add one more twisted gem, Run Away, to the catalogue. And the platform recently released a trailer where nobody can be trusted – neither investigators, nor partners, nor parents.

The upcoming limited series from the author, scheduled to drop on Netflix in the new year, has sown the seeds of suspicion and suspense throughout the trailer.

Speaking of his next venture, Coben tells Tudum, “Run Away is an emotional rollercoaster. I think maybe more than any other series we’ve done, it will keep you off-balance and guessing.” And to be fair, that’s exactly what the viewers want as well.

According to Coben, the forthcoming eight-episode miniseries, adapted from his 2019 novel of the same name, is packed with themes he has always been attracted to, including “missing people, family bonds, trauma, secrets, and redemption.” So, viewers must anticipate curveballs that have “profound emotional implications.”

On the surface, the protagonist of Coben’s Run Away, Simon Greene, appears to have the perfect family life, as evidenced by the montage of memories captured in the trailer. The author chimes in, highlighting how memories are stockpiled and “carefully cultivated” in the contemporary digital age. But the front soon blows up in their faces when Simon’s eldest daughter, Paige, with whom the friction is palpable and paramount from the first second of the trailer, unexpectedly runs away.

While her disappearance leaves Simon to search for Paige, it looks like he’s not the only one looking for her. He receives a call from private investigator Elena Ravenscroft, who tells, “I really need to speak to your daughter.” However, Simon informs her of her daughter’s disappearance, leaving both equally drawn to the case. Although Simon and Elena are looking for the same answer, whether they’ll work together or learn to trust each other is for viewers to find.

Meanwhile, Simon does have an unexpected encounter with Paige, disoriented and clearly distressed, in the park, when it hits the father that her boyfriend, Aaron, has been holding her back against her will. But soon, the suspicion begins to unravel when Aaron is discovered murdered. While the initial speculation lands on Paige, Simon is not exactly ruled out as a possibility for having a motive behind his killing.

As Elena and Simon still keep their search on, detective Isaac Fagbenle is pulled in to probe into Aaron’s mysterious death. “You’ll think you have the answer several times – but you don’t,” Coben teases. So, viewers really need to hold their horses for the “last-minute shocker.”

The trailer concludes with Simon telling his wife, “We just need to find her and bring her home,” but it leaves the question unattended as to how far the family would travel to do the same. Hence, to get your answers, don’t forget to watch Run Away on January 1st, 2026.
