‘Noah’: The epic biblical drama climbing the Netflix charts
For a change, instead of genre-inclination, the most popular movies chart on Netflix this week displays a mix of everything, including the rise of an epic biblical drama film, Noah.
In the week from February 9th to February 15th, Noah is ranked seventh on the global top 10 Netflix chart with 3.6million views. Additionally, it is also one of the top ten trending movies in 36 countries, including New Zealand, Bolivia, Egypt, Morocco, Mauritius, Brazil, the Bahamas, and Ecuador, among others.
While the movie’s surge on the Netflix charts underscores how big a resurgence Noah is experiencing on streaming, the sudden rise is not exactly without reason.
Noah was recently added to Netflix libraries in dozens of international territories following the expiration of its previous streaming deals at the end of 2025. As is the case with the Netflix algorithm, recent additions often trigger the push of older blockbusters to the front page, ensuring audience visibility through recommendations under the banner of “Recently Added.”
Moreover, there’s a complementary buzz surrounding the title, Noah, which is likely influenced by Netflix’s recent announcement of a new documentary on the singer-songwriter, Noah Kahan: Out of Body. Although scheduled to premiere later this year, the search volume for the name must have inadvertently kept “Noah” as a trending word on the streamer.
It is important to note that when Noah first premiered, it sparked a polarised response due to its creative liberties with the biblical source material. However, the resurgence proves that the audience is now more open to the high-fantasy, environmentalist take on the narrative.
That said, for those who are yet to watch Noah and are in need of a nudge, the epic biblical drama film is inspired by the story of Noah’s Ark from the Book of Genesis and the Book of Enoch. Packed with a star-studded ensemble, the movie, directed by Darren Aronofsky, stars Russell Crowe as Noah, a man chosen by the Almighty to survive an apocalyptic flood.
Noah follows his mission to construct a massive ark in order to protect innocent wildlife and shield his family from the crisis. Although the mission is no cakewalk, and Noah falters time and again while facing constant threats from a population eyeing to take the ark for themselves, the more Noah is thrust towards the showcases of inhumanity, the more he comes to terms with the predicament of humanity’s survival after the flood.
While most of us already know the story, for those curious about the twist, tune into Noah, currently streaming on Netflix.
