New series about Madonna’s life incoming at Netflix

Netflix’s documentary section will get a massive upgrade as they join hands with the global music icon Madonna. There will be a limited series about the superstar’s life and music career trajectory streaming soon on Netflix. As of now, it is still in the early stages of development, with Madonna and Shawn Levy executive producing it.

The two have been in talks for this project for a long time. However, it’s not on the same lines as the biopic in development with Universal that will see Julia Garner starring as Madonna. Levy and Madonna will be going back to square one for this Netflix collaboration.

Madonna’s career spans decades, and, currently, it is not clear what period the docu-series will focus on. Garner and Madonna famously interacted on stage at the icon’s Celebration Tour that took place in December 2023. While the former has not signed a deal yet, she is most likely to be cast as Madonna, depending on her availability. Garner has worked with Netflix previously on many famous projects, such as Ozark and Inventing Anna.

There is no news yet on Madonna’s involvement in the writing process for the series, whereas she had co-written the film that was to be made earlier. Nevertheless, Levy and Madonna’s collaboration is a positive sign for the production of the series as the former is known for backing popular Netflix shows such as Stranger Things, The Perfect Couple, and All the Light We Cannot See

On the other hand, Madonna is passionate about sharing her story in a biographical medium. During the announcement of the film with Universal in 2020, she shared the deep desire to convey her story as an artist, musician, dancer, and human being to the world, and has been working hard to bring the idea to life. In November 2024, she hinted at the possibility of the film being transformed into a series about her life.

Madonna has been moving mountains ever since she dropped out of college to pursue a career in music. With barely $35 in her wallet, she got on a plane for the first time. Over the next many decades, she made her name as the best-selling female artist in history. With over 400million records sold worldwide, Madonna was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008.

She revolutionised the music industry and challenged its sexist norms at every step. Her influence on society and pop culture extends beyond mere musical contributions through her advocacy for women’s rights and the LGBTQ+ community. Let’s hope this series can capture the burning flame that is Madonna’s life and art.
