A new season of ‘Adolescence’ is being discussed by production company
A second season of Adolescence might be underway for Netflix, according to Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B.
The hit Netflix show has already become one of the biggest English series the streamer has released, amassing over 114 million views since it was released on March 13th. Written by Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne, Adolescence has sparked plenty of discussion online for its exploration of misogyny and online ‘manosphere’ content.
Exploring the 13-year-old Jamie’s arrest and subsequent prosecution for murdering his female classmate, the show came to its conclusion after four episodes, with the final instalment shedding light on the way Jamie’s crime affected his own family.
However, many fans have been hoping for a second season, although Thorne initially told ITV that “Jamie’s story is finished,” adding, “I don’t think there’s anywhere more we can take Jamie, so I don’t think there is a series two.”
Yet, in an interview with Deadline, Plan B’s Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner discussed the potential for a “next iteration” of the show. While there are no official plans in place for season two just yet, Gardner said they are considering how to “widen the aperture, stay true to its DNA [and] not be repetitive.”
Adolescence has caused plenty of conversation, with some fans taking to social media to suggest ideas for a second season, such as exploring the story from the perspective of Katie. However, it appears that there will be a completely new storyline if Plan B decided to go ahead for a second season.
It appears as though the one-take technique would be utilised again, with Gardner explaining, “Phil’s [Barantini, director] style of doing the episodes in one take is not a gimmick. It’s very much in conversation with the subject matter.”
