New 'Knives Out' movie confirmed for Netflix release in 2025

Director Rian Johnson has revealed the title of the upcoming Knives Out movie, set for release on Netflix in 2025.

While a specific release date is yet to be provided, it’s set to arrive on Netflix in the next calendar year, and crucially, Daniel Craig will be coming back to the fray as detective Benoit Blanc, who has yet another murder mystery to solve.

In the teaser video for the upcoming movie, shared on social media platforms, Blanc states in a voiceover: “In the beginning, the knives came out. Then behold, the glass was shattered. But my most dangerous case yet is about to be revealed.”

Johnson hinted at an announcement on May 24th when he shared an image of a Pokémon egg, hinting that news was set to hatch imminently. Within hours of the initial cryptic post, Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery was made official with the director staying true to his promise.

He shared with his followers: “I love everything about whodunnits, but one of the things I love most is how malleable the genre is. There’s a whole tonal spectrum from Carr to Christie, and getting to explore that range is one of the most exciting things about making Benoit Blanc movies.”

Johnson then revealed that “we’re about to go into production on the 3rd one”, before adding, “I’m very, very excited to share the title, which gives a little hint of where it’s going.”

The director has been planning the third Knives Out instalment ever since the release of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery in 2022. He previously told Empire last year, “I’m jumping into the next Benoit Blanc next because I can’t think about another story.”

While, at that stage, nothing concrete was planned for the movie with Johnson admitting, “I’ve got a big cloud of ideas, but it hasn’t all snapped into focus yet”, he’s since formulated a film which is now ready to enter production.
