Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ season 3 commences production

Last year, Netflix released the second season of the fan-favourite series, The Witcher, before confirming the show’s return for a third season

Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the show was adapted from Andrezej Sapowski’s novels and the eponymous CD Projekt Red video game franchise.

On April 4th, 2022, the show took to its official Twitter to let fans know about the commencement of production. Henry Cavill, who plays the brooding Geralt of Rivia, sits in one of the actor’s chairs amidst snow and wilderness.

Next to him, Freya Allen and Anya Chalotra are seen looking at the woods with the crew members nearby. Allen plays the Ciri of Cintra and Chalotra plays Yennefer of Vengerberg.

This Polish-American supernatural series has focused on the three characters and noted their story arcs at different points of time before converging them into one in the second season. While Geralt presumes that Yennefer is dead and takes Ciri to safety; eventually, they all reunite.

The third season will continue their trajectory. Geralt and Yennefer must protect Ciri against all odds to protect his newfound family. To understand Ciri’s powers and to help the girl harness them, Yennefer takes them to the Aretuza fortress. However, the trio encounters corruption, darkness, political upheavals and treason.

While the release date for the third season is not known, it will most likely have eight episodes like the preceding two seasons.

The Witcher universe is constantly expanding, with a new prequel seriesBlood Origin, on its way. Earlier last year, the animated version of the same, Nightmare of the Wolfrecorded the adventures of Geralt’s mentor Vessemir who Kim Bodnia portrays in the second season of Hissrich’s show.

Henry Cavill, known for his acting performances in both films and television, namely Justice League, Enola Holmes, Man of Steel, The Tudors etc., will don the witcher’s armour yet again as he desperately tries to save this ragtag family. Freya Allen is known for her work on Into the Badlands, while you might recognise Chalotra from Wanderlust
