Netflix’s ‘The Witcher’ recasting another major character for season four
Ahead of its fourth season, Netflix’s The Witcher has gone through further recasting as Kim Bodnia has left the show.
The fantasy TV show has already gone through major casting reshuffles in the past year. In October 2022, it was announced that Liam Hemsworth will be replacing Henry Cavill in the lead role of Geralt from season four. Then, in January 2024, it was confirmed that Laurence Fishburne was cast as Regis, bringing new names into the series.
Now, as production of the fourth season gets underway, there has been another cast switch up as Kim Bodnia is leaving the series after joining for season two. Bodnia played Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor and father figure. But according to RadioTimes, the actor has pulled out of the show.
The reports claim that the reason for Bodnia’s departure is simple scheduling conflicts, as he’s now been cast in Joseph Kosinski’s and Brad Pitt’s Apple TV+ film F1. So far, the reports claim that his role has yet to be recast as the show’s producers are on the lookout for a new actor to take his place.
It’s just one of many changes that fans will notice on season four of the Netflix series. As Liam Hemsworth prepares to replace Cavill, he said “As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia.” He added, “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.”
He continued, “Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”
With all the rearrangements the show has been going through, some cast members even admitted to feeling nervous about returning to set. Freya Allan – who plays Ciri of Cintra on the show – had said that she felt oddly unsettled by the prospect of returning to work but instantly settled back into her character. “I was dreading it for a while if I’m honest, but now I’m on it, [the] great director starting us off has made it so much fun,” she told ComicBook. “There’s so much great stuff to play. I’m actually quite happy.”
