The Empire State Building suddenly became the talk of the internet after two climbers were spotted standing right on top of its famous spire. Remember the 2024 Netflix documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story? Yep, the two stories are connected.

The two climbers were Ivan “Vanya” Beerkus and Angela Nikolau, the couple most people will recognise from the same doc who are famous for climbing skyscrapers all over the world without any safety gear and making something absolutely terrifying look normal.

Only this time, they weren’t up there chasing another world record or trying to outdo themselves. Once they’d reached the top, they unfurled a banner saying, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”

Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Beerkus dropped to one knee and proposed, with later photos showing Angela wearing an engagement ring.

Naturally, people started connecting the dots. If the stars of a Netflix documentary are climbing the Empire State Building, Netflix must be filming something… right?

Only… it wasn’t. Turns out there wasn’t any link to Netflix whatsoever. Reports later confirmed it had nothing to do with Skywalkers: A Love Story, nor was it part of some secret new documentary. Netflix kept quiet on the whole thing, which pretty much put the rumours to bed.

Skywalkers: A Love Story follows Beerkus and Nikolau as they travel all over the world climbing skyscrapers and ridiculous structures most of us wouldn’t even fancy looking up at.

Along the way, the documentary doesn’t just show the danger of rooftopping. It also talks about their relationship, showing what drives them to keep taking these unbelievable risks together.

So no, the Empire State Building climb wasn’t some clever publicity stunt, and it definitely wasn’t Netflix secretly filming another project. It was just another real-life adventure from Beerkus and Nikolau, only this one ended with an engagement.
