Netflix’s ‘ONE PIECE’ universe expands with two new exciting updates

The Grand Line arc may have come to an end on Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s ONE PIECE, but the surprises have only begun for the fans.

In addition to the announcement of The Battle of Alabasta being in production in Cape Town, Africa, Netflix pulled back the curtain on two other equally exciting new revelations about not one but two groundbreaking reimaginations of the fan-favourite manga.

While in the first two seasons of ONE PIECE’s live-action series, the Straw Hats clashed with Baroque Works assassins and the dangerous metal monsters, now their adventures are transforming into a LEGO animated special. Although viewers have no choice but to wait until the third season of the live-action series is released in 2027, luckily, the same doesn’t apply for the LEGO animated special.

Premiering September 29th, the LEGO™ ONE PIECE animated special is a two-part retelling of the first and second season arc. Fans can expect Usopp, the Straw Hats’ unreliable narrator, to delight the newest recruit, the reindeer-boy hybrid Tony Tony Chopper, detailing the pirate squads’ epic exploits across the East Blue and into the Grand Line.

A trailer or teaser isn’t available, but for those craving a preview, a first-look image is already out, and it’s probably the cutest thing you will see today.

LEGO Group is producing the LEGO™ ONE PIECE special in collaboration with Japanese publisher Shueisha and Vancouver-based animation studio Atomic Cartoons. Tom Hyndman has been roped in as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Additionally, ONE PIECE creator Oda also serves as an executive producer for the LEGO special alongside Jill Wilfert, Keith Malone, and Lars Danielsen on behalf of LEGO, and Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements for Tomorrow Studios.

Moving on to the next news, it turns out that The Battle of Alabasta is not the only ONE PIECE project currently in production. THE ONE PIECE, produced by WIT Studio in partnership with Shueisha, Fuji Television Network and Toei Animation Co, is underway in production.

The anime series follows Monkey D Luffy on his sail with the Straw Hats crew in pursuit of the One Piece treasure, confronting and taking on dangerous villains and foes that come their way through the East Blue Saga. For those unaware, the East Blue is the introductory saga of Oda’s bestselling manga series, where viewers meet Luffy for the first time.

Although the release date of THE ONE PIECE is currently shrouded in mystery, fans don’t have to wait as long for the LEGO™ ONE PIECE to be released.
