Netflix will battle Apple for new Jennifer Lawrence film

Jennifer Lawrence has established herself as one of the biggest names in Hollywood, starring in popular film franchises like The Hunger Games series as well as critically acclaimed works such as Silver Linings Playbook for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress.

For her latest project, Lawrence is set to team up with Italian filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino in a biopic about famous Hollywood agent Sue Mengers. Lawrence will reportedly take the title role, with other stars being courted to play the roles of her star-studded clientele.

Multiple reports have already confirmed that streaming platforms are gearing up for a war for streaming rights, including the likes of Netflix and Apple. After reading the script, both companies are extremely interested and have already made their bids.

According to one source, Apple has made an offer for $80 million which includes an amount of $20 million as Lawrence’s fees to star and produce the film with Justine Polsky.

Matthew Belloni confirmed: “The Mengers story is certainly compelling movie fodder. She broke barriers in the ‘60s and ‘70s, representing everyone from Barbra Streisand to Michael Caine to Cher before being elbowed out of Hollywood by men like Michael Ovitz and becoming a home-bound industry observer and confidant.”

Adding, “Morgan Spurlock tried to put together a Mengers film back in 2016, and Bette Midler played her on Broadway in 2013. In addition to the meaty role for four-time Oscar nominee Lawrence, the new script is said to include fun parts for current stars to play some of those ‘70s-era Mengers clients.”
