Netflix viewers spot continuity error in new Christmas film
While no one expects a Christmas movie to be the absolute pinnacle of cinema, viewers have noted a major blunder in Netflix’s latest festive offering, Carry-On.
Starring Taron Egerton as a TSA agent targeted by a blackmail mission to get something dangerous on board a plane, the cast also includes Jason Bateman and Sofia Carson in a festive action flick similar to Die Hard. In the tradition of mildly Christmas-themed dramatic films, Carry-On is the latest high-octane, tense movie on Netflix with just the right amount of holiday spirit to qualify.
So far, the Christmas film has received largely positive reviews. According to the streaming platform, it broke Netflix’s record for the biggest film opening of 2024 and is currently sitting in the top 10 in 93 countries with over 42 million watches so far. It holds an 86% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with viewers calling it a “straight to the point action thriller” and complimenting Egerton’s performance especially. However, eagle-eyed fans have pointed out one major slip-up.
Viewers have noticed a continuity error in the movie that’s causing a stir online. In one scene, a woman holds a baby as she walks through security. It’s merely a background detail, and the woman and baby are only extras. However, the baby first seen has a full head of hair.
But, only seconds later, the baby suddenly looks completely different. In the blink of an eye, the baby appears to have lost all its hair as the crew clearly switched to a whole different baby without realising that the two shots wouldn’t match up.
“Netflix really said ‘no one will notice'”, one viewer commented online. It appears that either the error slipped through the cracks of the editing room, or perhaps the team really were simply hoping no one would spot the detail to avoid having to reshoot the scene.
People have spotted it, though. In a TikTok that has now amassed over 10 million views, other watchers are commenting on the error that they also spotted. One commenter joked, “First baby went for a nap”, while another riffed on the film’s title, “Like the movie said Carry On.”
For some viewers who hadn’t noticed, the revelation caused some laughs, too. “How do people notice such things!” one person commented, but the internet can always be relied on to spot little mistakes and slip-ups in films and television shows.
