Netflix unveils the release date for ‘Stranger Things: Tales from ‘85′
It hasn’t been easy to make peace with the conclusion of Stranger Things on Netflix. But if it helps, it won’t be long before viewers find themselves again deep in the sci-fi universe, thanks to the new animated series, Stranger Things: Tales from ’85, from showrunner Eric Robles and Stranger Things co-creators the Duffer Brothers.
The upcoming Netflix series, set in the Stranger Things universe between the second and third seasons, is set to debut in April 2026.
While Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 features characters the audience already know and love, the spin-off series comes with a twist. “It’s got the thrill of being young, being a kid, and going on these thrilling adventures. But then there’s this essence of real danger, real stakes,” Robles tells Tudum.
“This is one of the rarest opportunities that we’re ever going to get to be with the main characters. We get to go back in time and really just hang out with these kids.”
Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is set in 1985 amid the freezing temperatures of Hawkins when our mighty heroes embark on their most epic adventure yet. According to the logline, “the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorising their town” in the forthcoming animated series.
Joining the cast of Tales from ’85 are Brooklyn Davey Norstedt as Eleven, Jolie Hoang-Rappaport as Max, Luca Diaz as Mike, Elisha “EJ” Williams as Lucas, Braxton Quinney as Dustin, Benjamin Plessala as Will, Brett Gipson as Hopper, and Jimmy Jordan as Steve.
In addition to them, Odessa A’zion, Janeane Garofalo, and Lou Diamond Phillips round out the ensemble.
While Netflix already dropped an exciting first-look at Stranger Things Day, the streamer also released a new teaser recently, previewing the dangerous monsters and creatures plaguing Hawkins. Speaking of the teaser, Robles opens up, saying, “It’s like Hawkins lab science meets Upside Down matter. When you put them together, those are the kind of creatures we have in our world.”
Although viewers are aware of the intricacies of the Upside Down world, Tales from ’85 aims to highlight “the magic of Hawkins in a new way.” So, before you forget, save the date because the animated series is officially coming your way on April 23rd.
