Netflix unveil trailer for ‘Squid Game’ third series

With Netflix’s biggest hit Squid Game finally reaching its finale, the teaser trailer for the upcoming third series has been released.

Following on from the cliffhanger ending of the previous series, Netflix have now teased how the last chapter of the brutal games will play out, with lead character Gi-hun thrust “back into the brutal heart of the games, determined to dismantle them once and for all,” its synopsis explains.

The summary adds: “But the Squid Game stops for no one, so Gi-hun will be forced to make some important choices in the face of overwhelming despair as he and the surviving players are thrust into deadlier games that test everyone’s resolve. With each round, their choices lead to increasingly grave consequences.”

Squid Game has quickly become the streaming platform’s most successful show to date, with its second series, released in December last year, having been watched by over 192.6 million people, second only to its original series which raked in 265.2 million viewers.

The most recent instalment also became the third most-watched series ever produced on Netflix, indicating how hotly anticipated the final series will be.

Director Hwang Dong-hyuk returns to helm the series for the final time, having become the first Asian to win ‘Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series’ at the Emmy Awards in 2022.

The upcoming series of the show will star Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Wi Ha-jun, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Jo Yu-ri, Chae Kuk-hee, Lee David, Roh Jae-won, and Jun Suk-ho, with special appearances by Park Hee-soon.

The third and final series of Squid Game will be released on Netflix on June 27th.
