Netflix releases trailer for the final season of ‘Atypical’

Netflix has released the trailer fourth and final season of their hit coming-of-age American comedy Atypical.

The show first graced the streaming site back in 2017 and many wondered whether it would ever return after season three landed back in 2019, but it would seem that two years on the finale is finally about to arrive.

The show follows a teenager on the autism spectrum who decides it’s time to find a girlfriend and it focuses on the reverberations that his journey into adulthood has with friends and family.

Keir Gilchrist takes on the lead role of Sam, while he is joined in the cast by Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michael Rapaport, Brigette Lundy-Paine and more, all of returning for the final season.

Despite wrapping filming on season three over two years ago, it wasn’t until 2020 that it was renewed for a final instalment of ten episodes. The shows creator, Robia Rashad, announced: “I’m thrilled we’ll be doing a season four of Atypical, while I’m so sad to be nearing the end of this series, I am extremely grateful to have been able to tell this story.”

Adding: “Our fans have been such beautiful, vibrant supporters of this show. Thank you for being so open to Sam’s voice and stories, and those of the entire Gardner family.”

Before concluding, “It’s my hope that the legacy of Atypical is that more unheard voices continue to be heard and that even after this series ends, we keep telling funny, emotional stories from underrepresented points of view.”
