Netflix to stream ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ soon
Becoming Led Zeppelin will soon be available for streaming on Netflix. This streaming debut comes through the deal between Netflix and Sony Pictures. This documentary saw an exclusive release in IMAX theatres on February 14th.
The movie earned $10.4million in the US and over $12.8m around the world. The documentary follows the journey of the iconic rock band Led Zeppelin all the way from their childhoods to their rise to fame in the 1960s.
The film is close to two hours long and features never-before-seen footage of concerts and even content from personal archives. Band members Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones narrate the film. Late member John Bonham is remembered through old interviews.
Bernard MacMahon and Allison McGourty directed the film. It will be available on Netflix from June 7th and will stay on Netflix for the next 18 months. For now, it will only be available in the US; however, other regions might see the documentary on their sites in two to four years after its release.
The legendary band went on to make history with their songs, many of which are considered classics, like ‘Stairway to Heaven’, ‘Rock and Roll’, ‘Kashmir’, and ‘The Immigrant Song’. The band eventually broke apart after the demise of their drummer, John Bonham, in 1980.
MacMahon first screened Becoming Led Zeppelin to an audience in 2021. Soon after, Sony Pictures agreed to distribute the documentary in 2024. This documentary marks the beginning of MacMahon’s solo career. Before this, he was known for his collaborations with the BBC and PBS.
Many other Sony Pictures films will be available on Netflix soon, such as The Penguin Lessons featuring Steve Coogan. Even the much-awaited On Swift Horses, starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Jacob Elordi, will be streaming soon. Already released on the streaming giant in 2025 is the film Paddington in Peru.
