Netflix to release new interactive series, ‘House of Streams’

Netflix continues to expand its experiment with its interactive feature as it announces a new show. Taking this experiment a step forward, the streaming giant will be dabbling in the realm of reality television with its new show, House of Streams. This series will take forward the interactive tone that brings together the unscripted nature of reality television with online content creation.

House of Streams will see eight influencers and content creators come together to stay in a villa for a fortnight. The prize of the competition will be a grand prize of Bitcoin that is valued at $108,800. It will engage with the audience through a live chat feature that will be added to enhance interactivity.

The show is set to be hosted by Nicole Holliday. She is known for her work as the host of major EA FIFA tournaments. Speaking about the contestants, Mark Holland, who is the creator of the series, shared that they had held many sessions with streamers over two months to select their cast. They went through three rounds of selection, with eight being cast and one being selected as backup. These contestants come from all over the world.

Various companies collaborated to make this project come to life. It is produced by Stream House Media Productions (SHriMP). Malta Film Commission is backing the show. And Camelot Films helped organise the deal and promote the show. The show’s producer, Luke Croft-Faulkner, is responsible for the marketing of the series.

The contestants of the show have a collective social media presence of over four million followers across various platforms and regions. They come from different backgrounds from the US, UK and Australia. The series is designed with challenges and competitions that will involve the viewer in making decisions in real time through the live chat feature.

This interactive format is an exciting turn in the entertainment industry, according to the CEO of Camelot Films, Matt Hookings. The fresh idea brings the easily accessible nature of digital content to traditional television viewership. House of Streams will be a massive transformation in content consumption in the online world. It will premiere in the UK and Ireland on June 18th.

This is Netflix’s next step in its journey to make the platform more interactive. It has previously shut down the Interactive Specials page. This was done with the aim of entering the gaming industry. House of Streams will allow the platform to merge interactivity, gaming and content.
