Netflix confirms the release date for 'The Witcher 2'

Fans of The Witcher have been waiting on tenterhooks for news of the highly anticipated second season of the hit show, and now Netflix has confirmed that the wait is almost over.

The series stars Henry Cavill, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra. The Witcher explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia and princess Ciri, who are linked to each other by destiny. It is set in a fictional, medieval-inspired landmass known as “the Continent” and adapted from the series of fantasy novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. The story has conquered all formats, as it can also boast a successful video game franchise.

The streaming giant has now confirmed that the second season has wrapped and will arrive on the service this year. The first series saw The Witcher become the most in-demand TV series in the world, across all platforms. Author Andrzej Sapkowski previously commented: “I was more than happy with Henry Cavill’s appearance as The Witcher. He’s a real professional. Just as Viggo Mortensen gave his face to Aragorn (in The Lord of the Rings), so Henry gave his to Geralt — and it shall be forever so.

“I shall be happy if the viewers — and readers — take anything away, anything that shall enrich them in some way. Also, I sincerely hope to leave the viewers — and readers — hot. In every sense. Not tepid, not lukewarm,” the writer added.

The synopsis for the upcoming season reads: “Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”
