Netflix teams with Martin Scorsese for new Vegas casino drama
Nobody. And we mean NOBODY woke up thinking Martin Scorsese would look at his schedule and realise all he is left to do is a Vegas casino show for Netflix. But here we are, living in a timeline where Scorsese is back in Vegas like he forgot he already gave us Casino and walked off like a king. But who are we to judge? We love the drama, and we are here for it.
Now, many might think that this drama might come from random newcomers. To everybody’s surprise, it is coming from Brian Koppelman and David Levien, the guys behind Billions, Rounders and Ocean’s Thirteen. Basically, if a script is full of gambling, deals, and shady smiles, you know these two probably wrote it. And now they are building a whole story set in present-day Las Vegas.
The show focuses on Robert “Bobby Red” Redman, who is the man running the hottest hotel-casino in town. He is the one everyone is watching. The one everyone wants to knock out. And he knows it. But this guy is out here making bi,g risky moves. The kind where you are like… sir… are you sure? But that’s Vegas, baby. One second, you are on top. One second, you are a cautionary tale, and it all depends on the choices you make.
And the funniest part? The show doesn’t even have a title yet. No cast. No teaser. Just the announcement that Scorsese is part of it, and suddenly everybody is paying attention like Netflix just dropped a royal decree. Love that.
What is this Vegas series about?
So picture a modern-day Vegas. Not the old-school mob Vegas some of us grew up watching. Not retro smoky Vegas. This is the upgraded “influencer-walking-through-the-lobby” Vegas, where everything looks safe, but nothing actually is. And right in the middle of this shiny mess is Bobby Red trying to keep his crown.
He is dealing with rivals who smile too much. In this world, there are investors who pretend they are helpful but might stab you in the back before you know it. In this world, loyalty lasts about five minutes. Now Bobby wants to expand and take ground, whatever it takes. And every decision feels like a gamble. Because duh, it’s Vegas. Nobody plays clean.
Who’s making this happen?
As we said before, the team is stacked. Koppelman and Levien are writing, running the show, doing the whole thing. Scorsese is behind them as executive producer, like some cinematic guardian angel with opinions. And then there is a whole list of producers who basically specialise in prestige drama and Vegas storytelling.
Still no cast names. Which means the internet is free to dream very big until Netflix confirms (or crushes) those dreams.
When does it release?
We haven’t got a date yet. They are still early in production. So until then, you are free to binge all the gambling movies and warm up before this hyped masterpiece drops.
