Netflix talent show featuring Liam Payne postponed following his tragic death

A new Netflix show featuring Liam Payne has been put on temporary hold after the singer tragically suffered a fatal fall from his hotel balcony in Argentina earlier in the month.

Building The Band, which wrapped up just two months before his passing, saw Payne working alongside fellow X Factor alumn Nicole Scherzinger and former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland as mentors to support aspiring singers in forming a band.

Hosted by Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean, the shows were filmed in Manchester throughout the summer, and were provisionally slated to be released on Netflix in the coming months.

However, following the former One Direction star’s death on October 16th, fans of the late singer have questioned whether the streaming giant will postpone the release date or pull the series entirely.

Addressing the uncertainties, a source confirmed the talent show would be released later once Netflix has had a chance to speak with Payne’s family about a suitable time.

“It is too soon to make a decision, but the show has definitely not been shelved,” a spokesperson told The Sun. “Filming was completed at the end of summer. Netflix will sit down with Liam’s family when the time is right to speak about the series and when it could be released,” they added.

Continuing, the source claimed the talent show would have a positive impact on the singer’s career and allow fans a glimpse into his final project and moments before his death. “Everyone involved is devastated and their heart goes out to his family,” they said, adding, “There is no rush or pressure to release the series. It would simply be a beautiful tribute to Liam and capture him at his best in the months before his death.”

Since his passing, many stars have paid tribute to the singer, including his former One Direction bandmates, ex-partner Cheryl Cole, longtime friend and former The Late Late Show host James Corden, and British music industry veterans Robbie Williams and Simon Cowell.

Payne’s Building The Band colleague Scherzinger also paid homage to the star on social media, saying she will “cherish” their moments together when One Direction formed “right up until just a few weeks ago.”

“It was such a blessing to get to work with you recently. We shared the same love and passion for music and I will forever remember the meaningful and joyful conversations we had,” she added.
