Netflix shares trailers for new animated video game television series during Geeked Week
For years, Netflix has looked to various popular video games for source material, creating many successful television series, both live-action and animated, for their platform. From The Witcher to Castlevania, many video game fans have witnessed their favourite games come to life in an alternative format, and now Netflix has teased several new releases.
As part of Geeked Week, the streamer has announced adaptations of various shows or further teased titles that have already been revealed, getting fans excited for their upcoming schedule.
It seems like the Tomb Raider franchise isn’t dying out anytime soon – Netflix has shared a trailer for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, an animated series based on the iconic video game character. Since she first appeared on screens in 1996, the character has been seen in various spin-off games and several movie franchises, played by both Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander.
The new series will focus on the events of the rebooted video game trilogy, which began in 2013 and reportedly takes place after 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Hayley Atwell will voice the protagonist, one of the most recognisable characters in video game history, while Allen Maldonado plays Zip.
Tasha Huo has developed the series, which will be arriving on Netflix on October 10th. Meanwhile, the streaming service has also teased another show based on a longstanding series of games – Splinter Cell: Death Watch. Based on the Tom Clancy video games, the new animated series will feature the protagonist Sam Fisher, voiced by Liev Schreiber.
The character will be older in this series, but he’ll surely still be doing what he does best by killing bad guys. Netflix has not revealed much about the show yet, refusing to even share a release date.
The streamer has, however, provided an update on Devil May Cry, which will be available to watch in April 2025. The series is based on the 2001 game developed by Hideki Kamiya, with the animated series being helmed by Adi Shankar. Johnny Yong Bosch will be voicing Dante, rather than his video game actor Reuben Langdon.
Finally, Netflix has revealed that they will be working on a Cyberpunk series, although they’ve given very little information away. Fans are unsure whether this new show has anything to do with previous related shows, such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
