Netflix shares first look at Jane Austen's 'Persuasion'

The clamour for Jane Austen adaptations never seems to cease. The famed novelist has penned some literary masterpieces that are just begging for on-screen adaptations.

Whether it is the BBC’s classic Pride & Prejudice, in which Colin Firth became a hero as Mr Darcy or, indeed, last year’s adaptation of Emma, starring Anya-Taylor Joy. Now, Netflix is sharing their own hat into the ring with Persuasion.

The new film will star Henry Golding and Dakota Johnson, and the streaming giant has confirmed first look images of the starring pair. It’s a taste of what will surely be another hit for Netflix.

The story centres on Anne Elliot, a 27-year-old woman who is unmarried and living at home. In 19th century England, this was unheard of and, therefore, Anne is under a lot of pressure.

When her previous love interest, Captain Wentworth, returns to town, Anne seems intent on rekindling their romance. She had only previously ignored his advances thanks to the persuasion of her aunt.

Dakota Johnson will take on the role of Anne while Cosmo Jarvis stars across from her as Captain Wentworth. Henry Golding will play William Elliot with Richard E. Grant and Suki Waterhouse, both attached too.

No formal release date has yet been announced but we’re expecting this title to arrive in 2022. For now, take a look at Dakota and Golding in the first look images of Persuasion.
