Netflix shares first-look and release date for ‘Goodbye June’
Netflix is renowned for reviving Hollywood gems on its streaming platform. But Kate Winslet flipped the chessboard when she chose the streaming giant to expand her CV as a director.
Now, Netflix has unveiled first-look images of Goodbye June, which appear to be a poignant and nuanced drama in the making.
The 2025 holiday season is going to be all about the Netflix fireworks. The company just shared a slew of first-look images from Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June, now set to be released in select theatres before its streaming touchdown.
The family drama film will hit the US and the UK theatres on December 12th. Goodbye June will premiere globally on Netflix this Christmas Eve, December 24th.
The Oscar-winner is co-producing the Netflix film with Kate Solomon, from a script by Winslet’s son, Joe Anders. Anders reportedly wrote the film during a screenwriting course when he was 19. Netflix announced the film earlier this year, in February, which was in production from February 24th to April 11th. It was shot in and around London, with a filming focus at St Mary’s University in Teddington.
Goodbye June is a forthcoming Netflix film that departs from the holiday season formula to amplify the festive season blues. Grounded in hard-hitting elements of realism, the film follows four siblings and their father, whose lives turn upside down when their already ailing mother’s health worsens at the peak of Christmastide.
While preparing for the unthinkable, this family navigates chaotic domestic dynamics as the mother “orchestrates her decline on her own terms – with biting humour, blunt honesty, and a lot of love” (via Tudum). According to Deadline, Winslet and Anders have worked thoroughly throughout the development process of Goodbye June.
Netflix most recently shared behind-the-scenes images as well as first-look pictures from Goodbye June, which show the Titanic actor in action alongside Timothy Spall on set. Starring Winslet, Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Helen Mirren, and Stephen Merchant, among others, you’ll also find pictures of other castmates.
