Netflix sets a release date for Steven Knight’s ‘House of Guinness’
With every departure arc, Netflix clears out space for something new. So, if you thought Mondays are all about what’s leaving from Netflix, hold your lattes! The streaming giant has lifted the lid on one of the highly anticipated releases of the year, Steven Knight’s forthcoming period piece, which will transport viewers to the 1860s with a release date finally set for House of Guinness.
Netflix has ordered eight episodes for House of Guinness. And all of them are coming to the streamer on September 25th. Created and executive produced by Knight, the upcoming series also has Karen Wilson, Elinor Day, Martin Haines, Tom Shankland, and Ivana Lowell attached as executive producers. Shankland additionally has directed four episodes, while Mounia Akl took over the chair for two.
Cahal Bannon serves as a series producer alongside Howard Burch. House of Guinness is a Kudos production, the company Knight previously teamed up with for his 2022 thriller SAS: Rogue Heroes. But what is House of Guinness all about?
House of Guinness traces a history and tradition. Inspired by one of the long-lasting legacies in Europe, that of the Guinness family, the Netflix series is set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, and begins right after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness. Benjamin Guinness is the powerhouse who wrote the blueprint for Guinness Brewery’s magnanimous success.
The upcoming Netflix show revolves around the sweeping effects of his will on his four children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, Ben, and a group of characters in Dublin, closely related to the work that Guinness does. Knight describes the Guinnesses as a “naturally wild clan.” And to help their story breathe new life on the screen, Netflix has cast just the right candidates.
Anthony Boyle, Louise Partridge, Emily Fairn, and Fionn O’Shea portray the Guinness children. Meanwhile, Netflix has also roped in James Norton, Niamh McCormack, Seamus O’Hara, Michael McElhatton, Dervla Kirwan, and Michael Colgan, among others.
But according to Knight, Arthur and Edward Guinness are the “heart” of the Netflix show. While you may have to wait a few more days to find out why, for now, fans can go through the first-look images Netflix rolled out for what’s to come. Although Netflix has yet to release a trailer, considering the release is on the horizon, it shouldn’t be long before the streamer allows the sneak peek fans have been craving for.
