Netflix shares season two trailer for ‘Squid Game’
The second season of the widely beloved TV show Squid Game is set to arrive on Netflix on December 26th. Now, the streaming service has also revealed the trailer for season two, which shows a number of the contestants who will take part in the show’s iconic challenges.
The trailer shows the return of Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee-Jung jae, as the character is met with sounds of the score from the first season. Season two will see Gi-hun try to track down those who put him through the first season’s events.
Arrived in 2021, season one of Squid Game was a huge success and focused on a group of contestants who fight to the death in a series of deadly challenges and games in the hopes of winning a huge cash prize.
Season two’s official description from Netflix reads, “Three years after winning Squid Game, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport.”
The description continues, “Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organisation proves deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”
Lee Byung-hun, Wi Ha-jun, and Gong Yoo, who all played characters in the first season, will be coming back for the second round of episodes, while the likes of Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Lee Jin-uk, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon all serve as new cast members.
Season one of Squid Game was a major success and began the most watched series in the history of Netflix with 2,205,200,000 hours of viewing time, which equates to 251,735 years of viewing time.
Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, Netflix are hoping that season two of the show can inspire similar success and if the trailer is anything to go by, then it looks as though we are in for a gory treat, especially with the new and exciting cast members joining the fold.
As of yet, we don’t know exactly who the new characters will be and what kind of contestants they will be in the competition. It may well be the case that they will hinder Gi-hun in his quest to find the competition’s creators or aid him in his journey towards justice.
