Netflix says that 'Tiger King 2' is "coming soon"

There’s a good argument to suggest that Tiger King became a worldwide lifeline when it was released during the height of the pandemic. As the world locked down, at least we had an irreverent story that involved mystery, murder and, Joe Exotic.

The documentary series followed the lives of Exotic and the people in his park and tracked the life and times of his arch-nemesis Carole Baskin. The former eventually ended up in prison after being convicted of attempting to hire an assassin for Baskin. And, now, it’s back.

Though there has not yet been an official press release confirming the new series, including details of when viewers will be able to watch it, the word around the figurative water-cooler is that the show is “coming soon,” with a trailer hinting at the same.

Rebecca Chaiklin, who directed the original Tiger King with Eric Goode, had already seemed to be interested in making a Tiger King 2 last year in an interview with EW.

“We have a crazy amount of footage, and it’s a story that’s still unfolding,” she said. “We’re not sure yet, but there could be a follow-up on this story because there’s a lot that’s still unfolding in it, and it’ll be just as dramatic and just as colourful as what has unfolded these past few years.”

Most of those involved with the show have lambasted its narrative line, with Baskin claiming Netflix “did not care about the truth. The unsavoury lies are better for getting viewers.”

Whichever way you cut it, a new Tiger King will be gratefully gobbled up.
