Netflix romance ‘Lonely Planet’ starring Laura Dern and Liam Hemsworth unveils premiere date and first look photos
More new content is coming to Netflix. The streaming giant recently announced that its new romance from writer and director Susannah Grant, Lonely Planet, will premiere in October. Netflix has also released a series of first-look stills that show the main cast in the highly anticipated new series.
The series sees Laura Dern play Katherine, a novelist who makes her way overseas only to unexpectedly fall in love with a young man played by Liam Hemsworth. Further details on the series plot are being kept under wraps, but we know that it involves two people and their life-altering romance.
“Katherine has spent her life dedicated to narrative and therefore [hasn’t spent] much time looking at deep truth within,” Dern told Netflix, providing slight insight into her character, “She is at a turning point in her life where she is looking for softening and deeper understanding, and she finds it in a love story.”
Liam Hemsworth admits he was thrilled to share the screen with the Oscar Winner Laura Dern, saying, “Sharing scenes with Laura Dern was an absolute privilege.” He continued, “She has this remarkable talent for drawing you in, making every moment feel intimate and real.”
Lonely Planet certainly sounds like it is on trend at the moment, as Netflix is keen on running with the autumn romances that audiences always seem so attracted to. May December did well last year, which was made by Todd Haynes and grabbed an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination. Additionally, A24’s outing Babygirl, which charts the affair between a CEO and an intern, is set for release in the coming months.
The upcoming romance sounds like it will have a bit of everything. While a warm story about love is all many people would pine for later in the year, it also resonates on a deeper level, exploring themes of identity and discovery.
“What drew me to the story was the exploration of identity and self-worth within relationships, especially in a world as intellectually charged as the literary scene,” said Dern, “The dynamic between the younger man and the older, established writer intrigued me because it’s not just about romance – it’s about finding someone who truly sees and understands you, which is something deeply human and relatable.”
Lonely Planet will be available on Netflix on October 11th.
