Netflix gets rights to a new action comedy film starring Jason Momoa and Andy Samberg
Netflix seems to be on a roll with getting the rights to exciting projects. The streaming giant has bagged the rights to a new action comedy film in a high-stakes bidding war. The stakes weren’t high for no reason, as a never-before-seen pairing will come together to bring this film to life. They both have their own loyal fan following, as they should, for some standout roles. It is a combination that just makes sense.
The currently unnamed film will feature none other than the star of Aquaman and Game of Thrones fame, Jason Momoa, with ex-Saturday Night Live cast and comedy genius, Andy Samberg. Fans are elated with this news as the two are predicted to bring together their impeccable knack for comic timing and effortless charm.
Details are still pending on various aspects of the film, including direction and story, but what is known is that the story will be written by another celebrated pair. Adding some more of that SNL spark to the film are veterans Rob Klein and John Solomon. The latter has been nominated for an Emmy eight times, while the former has raked up eleven nominations.
The plot is set in Hawaii, and one of the actors has a native connection to the place, with Momoa being born in Honolulu. A silver lining to this partnership is that their respective production companies will be contributing as well. Party Over Here, which was created by Samberg’s comedy musical group The Lonely Island, and On The Roam, founded by Momoa.
Both stars have been making a wide impact in their respective careers for years now. However, Samberg seems to have taken a backseat from acting in the past few months as he spends more time behind the scenes, appearing as the executive producer for shows like I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson and Baking It. Other than that, he is set to star in the upcoming The Roses, a remake of the 1989 film The War of the Roses, alongside Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch. He was last seen returning to SNL when he featured as former Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff in the series’ 50th season.
Momoa, on the other hand, is keeping busy onscreen, making waves in popculture with his work in the video game film A Minecraft Movie. He will also be seen in the action comedy The Wrecking Crew opposite Dave Bautista, and ensuring his dreams come true, starring as the intergalactic alien Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
