Netflix reveals details on upcoming animated spinoff of ‘Stranger Things’

Netflix is known to have crafted some brilliant original series and films. One such groundbreaking series, which has become one of the most watched series on Netflix was Stranger Things. And while the original series will soon be coming to an end this year, the streaming giant seems to have more to offer in the universe.

A new animated spin-off based in the universe was announced at a special presentation, Next on Netflix Animation, recently. The brilliant animator Eric Robles, who will also be an executive producer and showrunner for the series, announced the spinoff, Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85

This series will be a family show that takes on the signature Stranger Things blend of nostalgia and supernatural. The official summary of the series states, ‘Welcome back to Hawkins in the stark winter of 1985, where the original characters must fight new monsters and unravel a paranormal mystery terrorising their town in Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, an epic new animated series.’

Matt and Ross Duffer who created the original series, will be serving as executive producers of the animated series. This will be done under the banner of their production company, Upside Down Pictures. Hilary Leavitt from the company will also be executive producing it. Joining the slate of executive producers are Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen through 21 Laps Entertainment. It is the production company that Levy founded.

Robles has expressed his excitement for the show and hopes to capture and maintain the very essence of the original series that makes it stand out. His team has been drawing inspiration from classic 1980s animated shows such as The Real Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, and Transformers. They would help build the core of the nostalgia that the show is known to exude. Giving an exclusive glimpse into the animated world, Robles shared character designs, monsters, and many detailed Hawkins sets. Even a clip of an action scene animated by Kevin Molina-Ortiz was shown, receiving admiration from the audience.

Netflix even shared new information about its upcoming animated film, In Your Dreams. It is directed by Pixar alums Alex Woo and Erik Benson. Kuku Studios serves as the primary production company. It will feature Craig Robinson, known for his work in The Office and Brooklyn 99, Simu Liu from Kim’s Convenience, and Cristin Milioti from Palm Springs. The film is set to release on November 11th.

The creators gave an exclusive glimpse into the film at the presentation. It is said to follow Stevie and her brother Elliot in a surreal comedy adventure as the two travel across quirky regions of their dreams.
