Netflix reveal actor playing Ayrton Senna in new F1 mini-series 'Senna'

Netflix have just revealed the actor set to portray Formula 1 world champion Ayrton Senna in new six-episode mini-series Senna. Produced with the participation of the Senna family, the show will chronicle the Brazilian F1 driver’s rise to fame from his move to England to his first competition and his tragic death at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.

Brazilian rising star Gabriel Leone was recently cast in the role. “It is a huge responsibility and also a great honour to be able to represent an icon who inspired so many people throughout his life, showing the world Brazilian sporting talent,” he said in a recent statement. “Knowing that we will bring this story to millions of people in so many countries, through Netflix, inspires me to see this as one of the great roles of my career.”

Discussing Leone’s selection, Senna’s sister (also the mother of HRT, Lotus and Williams racer Bruno Viviane) said: “He has the ability to faithfully portray Ayrton’s unique personality, especially the Ayrton that we as a family knew, off the track.”

Senna was originally announced back in 2020. It will be produced by Fabiano Gullane and co-directed by Brazilian filmmakers Vicente Amorim and Julia Rezende.
