Netflix reveal release date and teaser trailer for 'Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F'

After years of being hinted at by Netflix, the platform has given fans a release date for the long-awaited Beverly Hills Cop sequel: Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the latest adventure sees Axel Foley back on the streets of Beverly Hills, trying to get to the bottom of the next case. After getting various teasers for the film, Netflix has announced that the film will be available on streaming starting on July 3rd, 2024.

This marks the first time in over three decades that Murphy has returned to the character, having played him in Beverly Hills Cop III in 1994. Since then, Murphy has become known for his roles in various comedic films, recently seeing a resurgence for his other 1980s work with the sequel Coming 2 America in 2021.

The film will also see familiar faces joining the fold yet again, with Judge Reinhold, Paul Reiser, and John Ashton reprising their roles from their first appearances in the franchise. Alongside the latest case, newcomers like Joseph Gordon-Leavitt and Taylour Paige will also be joining the cast in new roles.

When talking about working with Murphy, director Mark Molloy noted that his energy as Foley hadn’t changed at all, telling Netflix, “Eddie’s such an incredible artist. He can do drama, he can do comedy – he can do anything. And he’s the same Axel Foley. He’s still on the streets. He’s still doing what he does. Obviously, with age, you get wiser. But he still has the twinkle in his eye”.

Outside of the structure of the film, Molloy also said that the best moments kept in was when Murphy was improvising on set. While many of the scenes followed similar blueprints, the director said that the most important part of his job was getting the right people around Murphy to let him become the character.
