Netflix reunites ex-One Direction stars Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson for a documentary
Nearly a year after the death of their fellow bandmate, Liam Payne, former One Direction stars Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson officially join forces for a Netflix documentary.
As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Malik and Tomlinson have teamed up for a US road trip documentary series for the streaming giant. Nicola Marsh, best known for her work on the Demi Lovato documentary, Child Star, Song Exploder, and Stay on Board: The Leo Baker Story, will direct the Netflix series.
Malik and Tomlinson are supposedly expected to reunite for their American travels, and through their three-part Netflix documentary, they will share their adventure. They are also speculated to shed light on the heartbreaking demise of their One Direction band member, Payne. According to a synopsis from Malik and Tomlinson’s representatives, “The series is a rare look inside the world of two of the most famous – and most private – men on the planet opening up about life, loss, and fatherhood.”
The still untitled Netflix docuseries is anticipated for a possible 2026 release. Campfire Studios, which previously worked on Unknown Number: The High School Catfish, Smartless: On the Road, and America’s Sweethearts: The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, will produce the project for Netflix.
Although the documentary brings back Malik, who left One Direction in 2015, alongside Tomlinson, other former members, Harry Styles and Niall Horan, are unlikely to helm the show. While the Netflix docuseries surely aims to charm the fans of the British boy band, which was discovered by Simon Cowell and ex-Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger at The X Factor season 10, neither Styles nor Horan is expected to make appearances.
One Direction then went on to reign the global music scene as a sensational group of equally talented bandmates, who now enjoy exceptional edge in their respective careers. In fact, they became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.
The negative probability of Styles and Horan’s presence in the upcoming Netflix documentary might upset a few fans. However, given that Malik and Tomlinson are warming up for a reunion, there’s no doubt that all eyes will be on them. Campfire Studio’s Ross Dinerstein and Rebecca Evans are set to executive-produce the docu-series. As for more details on the project, stay tuned for further updates.
